In our February issue, we take readers along in search of peace, solitude, and revitalization at some of the state’s most sacred places.

For the story “Sacred Spaces,” photographer Jeff Wilson traveled across Texas to capture temples, churches, and cultural sites that offer visitors—religious or not— spaces to reflect in our increasingly noisy world. From the Caddo Mounds in East Texas to San Antonio’s San Fernando Cathedral, find divine inspiration and quiet contemplation in Texas’ spiritual landmarks.

Though writer Katie Gutierrez had never heard of Balmorhea before working on “Eternal Springs,” she says her solitary trip to the West Texas town felt like a pilgrimage to somewhere sacred. She dove into the waters of Balmorhea State Park Pool, hiked in the Davis Mountains, and explored the history of San Solomon Springs.

The rest of the February issue offers more tales of remembrance and rumination. In East Texas, the community of Hemphill honors those lost in the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster 20 years later; a monument in Dallas serves as a beacon for the LGBTQ community; and a repurposed subterranean cistern in Houston inspires creativity.
